Men's Lacrosse Wins Penultimate Conference Game Against Guilford on Senior Day

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team took down Guilford 24-2 Saturday afternoon in their penultimate ODAC game of the season. The Eagles improved to 4-5 in league play this season.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater 24, Guilford 2

Records: Bridgewater (10-6, 4-5 ODAC), Guilford (2-11, 1-8 ODAC)

How it Happened

  • After honoring their eleven graduating members, Bridgewater opened with a goal from one of their graduating players, Riley Stewart. Stewart found the back of the net again minutes later. Isaac Beals joined in on the scoring action by registering his first goal with 9:57 remaining in the opening period. The Eagles soon caught fire, seemingly finding nylon with every shot attempt. Blake Sherin scored with 9:57 remaining in the opening stanza to push the BC lead to four. Luke Wendler added two tallies to the BC count in a span of a minute. Stewart secured a hat trick with 6:22 left on the clock to make the score 7-0. Beals followed suit by scoring two goals over the next three minutes of game action. Bridgewater notched three goals in the final minute of action in the opening period. Tristan Lee, Jake Wagner, and Colt Short all scored in the final 38 seconds of the opening stanza to give the Eagles a commanding 12-0 lead.

  • The second quarter was quiet compared to other quarters, as both teams scored twice in the period. Neither team was able to score in the first 5:30 of the second period. Oliver Nowell-Shortt broke the silence by scoring twice seconds apart. Guilford matched Nowell-Shortt's efforts with two goals of their own. After scoring their final goal with 5:50 remaining in the half, neither team was able to score before the halftime break.

  • Bridgewater found the back of the net four times in the fourth quarter. Chris McBroom scored the first tally for the Eagles in the opening minute, then scored again on an assist from Gavin Brown with 9:30 left on the clock. Brown assisted on the next goal from Connor Warren to push the BC lead to 15. Sherin found the back of the net with 1:23 remaining in the third quarter to send BC into the final break with an 18-2 lead.

  • Bridgewater finished the contest with six goals in the final period. Chris McBroom became the third Eagle with a hat trick in the contest by scoring within the first thirty seconds of game action. Warren scored his second goal on an assist from Adam Biggs to give the Eagles their 20th goal of the contest. Danny Sentz, Conner Jeffries, Landon Blackshear, and Hunter Gray scored to put an exclamation point on a successful senior day.

Game Notes

  • 14 different Eagles scored goals.

  • Contrasting from his previous outing against Roanoke, Ian Cook only recorded two saves in 22 minutes of action. All four Bridgewater goalies saw action. Zach Guthrie-Pimpinella subbed in shortly after the Eagles allowed their first goal. Josh Crowther subbed during the fourth quarter, and Jaylin Bonds logged the first minutes of his collegiate career to close the game.
