FOREST, Va. - Five members of the Bridgewater College softball team have been named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's all-conference teams, the league office announced on Thursday morning.
Mackenzie Cauthorn,
Evelyn Rhoads,
Caroline Malandra and
Aniella Baldwin all earned spots on the second team, while
McKenna Mueller earned a spot on the third team.
Cauthorn's senior campaign has been nothing short of historic. The Tappahannock, Va. native rewrote the program record book as she broke the single-game, single-season and career strikeout records this season. Her 146 strikeouts on the season rank 13th in Div. III, while her 1.72 ERA is inside the top 60 nationally as well. The senior is closing in on the program's single-season innings-pitched record and ranks ninth among all active Div. III pitchers in strikeouts per seven innings over her career.Â
Rhoads was a key piece for the Eagles on the mound this year as she and Cauthorn teamed up for one of the best one-two punches in the nation. Her sophomore campaign has seen her register a team-best 1.53 ERA along with a 9-3 record in the circle and a save. The Hiwassee, Va., native had a stretch of five straight games without allowing an earned run, a key part of the NCAA's longest shutout streak with Cauthorn.Â
Malandra earns her second-straight second-team all-conference accolade after pacing BC at the plate. Malandra led the Eagles with a .390 batting average while serving as the primary leadoff batter for the Eagles. Her 33 RBI were among the ODAC leaders, but her .780 slugging percentage ranked third in the league. The junior went deep a team-high eight times to rank third in the conference as well, while her 20 stolen bases on the campaign are the most by an Eagle in half a decade. The McKeesport, Pa. native was a key piece of BC's Pod 2 sweep last weekend as she drilled a pair of home runs and drove in four runs to help BC clinch a spot in the ODAC Championship.
Baldwin anchored the BC outfield in her junior season. The lefty earns her first All-ODAC accoladeÂ
