HARRISONBURG, Va. — The Bridgewater College men's soccer team continued to seek a breakthrough Wednesday night but fell short in a 1-0 defeat to Eastern Mennonite, with a second-half goal being the deciding factor.

How It Happened
- In the first half, the Eagles made several attempts to penetrate the Royals' defense. After goalkeeper Davis Bashore delivered two early saves, Lucio Bianchi challenged Eastern Mennonite's Dennis Villalta in the 28th minute. Shortly after, Riley Queen and Matthew Brand-Jimenez each had shots on target just 25 seconds apart in the 36th minute, but Villalta denied both efforts to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
- The Royals struck first in the 51st minute when Xavier Barravino netted a goal assisted by Bryan Rodriguez. Eight minutes later, Bashore preserved Bridgewater's chances with another crucial save.
- The Eagles displayed relentless effort in search of an equalizer, recording 11 shots after the break. Noa Denno forced a save in the 74th minute, and Queen came agonizingly close in the 80th minute when his shot hit the crossbar.
- As the clock wound down, Bridgewater maintained the offensive push, and a red card for Eastern Mennonite's Hector Ortiz in the 86th minute provided a man advantage for the Eagles. Back-to-back corner kicks in the 89th minute created further scoring opportunities. In the final moments, Braxton Sebastian sent one last shot over the bar, leaving Bridgewater just shy of leveling the match.
