BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Nationally recognized Bridgewater College women's volleyball grabbed two more wins to the season for the first home matches of 2026 as the Eagles went on to take a straight-set win over Penn State Harrisburg and a four-set victory over Virginia State Saturday.

How It Happened
Match 1

Right out of the gate, the Eagles came ready to fire away. BC jumped out to an early lead for a strong 6-1 start. Agnes Alford smacked a kill as Reagan Stoop followed with a potent service ace for a 14-6 lead. Soon after, BC ignited two separate scoring runs to command a massive 22-8 surge. The Eagles took care of business for a 25-11 first set score.

PSUH returned in the second set with aggression as they pushed to an early lead; however, was quickly snuffed as BC lunged to a 12-7 advantage after a seven-point run. The Nittany Lions battled back to even the score at 16 apiece and later reclaimed the lead at 23-22. Stoop had other plans as she laced a devastating kill while Alford and Claire Griffith followed with thunderous attacks to close the second set, 25-23.

In the third set, the Eagles soared; commanding a 9-1 lead as attacking trio Alford, Frizzelle and Griffith all found open hardwood. BC pieced together three scoring-run sequences to break away from the opposition and come away victorious for the match for a 25-12 final set score.

Virginia State and Bridgewater put together a tight battle in each set while both teams traded momentum swings. The Eagles were effectively locked into place to find success and rumbled back to fight off the Trojans. In the opening set, VSU led the way to start with a 7-3 advantage. BC gradually crawled back and cut the deficit with the help of a massive kill from Claire Griffith. Griffith handled the next two points for BC to stay close with VSU. Later in the set, the Eagles captured the momentum surge to lift past the Trojans by a six-point run and a final kill from Griffith to carry out the first set with a 25-23 first set score.

BC pushed ahead with an early four-point run to set the stage for the second set. From there, the Eagles never lost their lead. The Crimson & Gold held steady throughout the set while using a five-point scoring surge to its advantage to take an 18-9 edge. The Trojans did not have an answer to stop the active BC offense as Reagan Stoop rang in the final point to claim the second set, 25-14.

In the third set, VSU came firing back, taking a commanding 8-2 lead. The Eagles could not find the momentum surge needed to break away from the Trojans and could not get a steady handle on the offensive flow. Although a four-point run to drop the score at a two-point game at 23-21, VSU squeezed by and held on to a 25-21 third set score.

The Eagles jumped out in the fourth set with an aggressive approach. Alford got the offense firing with a quick attack to cash in an early 5-1 lead. Another scoring run took hold for a 13-5 score. BC executed on the game plan, created separation and held onto the momentum the rest of the way. Griffith and Frizzelle went back-to-back with powerful kills to land the game-winning point and secure a 25-16 fourth set score.
