How It Happened
Match 1
-
The Eagles got off to a slower start than their more familiar pace of play but eventually settled in and went to work. In the opening set, many momentum swings took place. BC fired off a three-point run for it to then be spoiled by a determined opposition nipping at its heels. Olivet took the lead at 14-13 after nailing a four-point run and soon after carved out a five-point run to take a 21-16 lead. Olivet claimed the first set, 25-18.
-
In the second set, the Comets opened with a three-point scoring run. However, the Eagles kicked into gear and launched a five-point run behind two straight kills from Reagan Stoop and a darting kill by Maya Veselinovic to land a 9-7 lead. BC continued to pull away later in the set with a five-point burst with back-to-back service aces from Molly Gardner. Stoop made sure to nail the final point of the set with a kill for a 25-18 score.
-
The Eagles charged ahead more in the third set. Virginia Collins struck the opening point with a kill to set the tone. Gradually, BC pulled away while using a three-point run to its advantage. Then, an eight-point surge shaped the set as Veselinovic and Claire Griffith got in on the kills total. Agnes Alford had the final say to the set as she pummeled a kill to find open floor to end the third set at 25-11.
-
Using more of the same effective offensive momentum from the second and third sets soon became the reoccurring theme in the fourth set. The Eagles cracked a 5-1 lead to start as Olivia Mason winded back to rip a laser in the attack. By the middle of the set, BC had full control of the pace and flow while Alford and Griffith continued to fuel the fire at 15-6. The Comets could not find the answer late in the set, and BC rolled on to a confident 25-13 final set.
Match 2
-
Both teams squared off ready to fight the battle in Gettysburg. The Eagles drew first blood with an early 5-1 start as Reagan Stoop and Agnes Alford dialed back and cracked back-to-back points. However, GET quickly recovered and evened the score at five apiece. BC kept fighting hard and ignited an 18-10 lead and reached set point, but the Bullets hung in and bounced back with an eight-point scoring run to then capture the set at 27-25.
-
In the second set, BC did not let up. Maya Veselinovic started the action off in the set with consecutive kills. The Eagles earned a momentum push in the middle of the set with an 11-8 lead off a massive Stoop kill. Later in the set, the Eagles surged to a six-point lead at 23-17 after kills from Claire Griffith, Veselinovic and Stoop. Alford smacked the final point for a 25-22 second set score.
-
The Eagles got the ball rolling again in the third set. Although many lead changes between both squads, BC found the final push to hold a 2-1 set lead. Stoop and Virginia Collins paired up to land back-to-back kills for an 11-8 lead in the middle of the set. From there, the Crimson & Gold held strong. Olivia Mason and Stoop closed out the set with the final execution point to move into a fourth set as the Eagles took a 25-18 third set score.
-
Match action soon came down to the fifth set to decide the victor. Alford and Griffith planted points for the Eagles with a kill and an ace. Then, Stoop and Collins helped ignite a 7-3 lead with powerful swings to control a four-point run. That scoring run helped keep the Bullets at bay and the Eagles steamrolled to a 15-11 final set score for the match.
