Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater (7-7, 1-5 ODAC)
was able to put two goals on the board late, but it wasn't enough
as the Eagles fell to #8 Lynchburg (13-2, 6-0 ODAC) by an 8-2 score
in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action at Mapp Field.
It was all Lynchburg in the first half, as the Hornets tallied
the game's first goal at the 1:08 mark when an Allie Weir pass
found the back of the cage off of an Erin Funkhouser shot to give
Lynchburg a 1-0 advantage.
Jenny Weir would tally the next two Hornet goals at the 13:46
mark and the 18:03 mark to provide an extra cushion at 3-0.
Lynchburg would end its first half barrage with a Shelly Milks
goal at 27:27 to take a 4-0 lead into the intermission.
As the second half got under way, an Eagles miscue allowed the
Hornets to extend their lead off of an Allie Weir penalty stroke,
pushing the game to a 5-0 score.
Seven minutes later, Jordan Warrington netted Lynchburg's sixth
goal of the game off of an Erin Funkhouser pass to push the score
to 6-0.
Milks and Funkhouser would net another goal each before the
Eagles got on the board off of a Leah Cossentino redirect of a
Christina Pybus pass to cut into Lynchburg's lead and bring the
score to 8-1.
Eighty-two seconds later the Eagles would score again when
junior Brianna Jacques found the back of the net to finalize the
scoring at 8-2.
NCAA Division III career goals leader Allie Weir was kept off of
the scoreboard in open play for only the second time this year as
the Eagles defense held the nation's top scorer in check.
BC was outshot by a 22-6 margin.
Senior keeper Elizabeth Sullivan picked up the loss, splitting
time in the cage with sophomore Taylor Waddell. Sullivan and
Waddell each allowed four goals, with Waddell recording three saves
to Sullivan's two.
Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday when the squad heads
to Washington & Lee to do battle with Rhodes College with game
time being slated for a 12:00 noon start.
