Box Score Bridgewater College advanced to the semifinals of the ODAC
women's basketball tournament with a 77-65 victory over Washington
and Lee in Thursday's opening round at the Salem Civic Center.
The Eagles led by as many as 18 points in the second half, but had
to turn away a late Generals' rally to earn the victory.
The Eagles used a 10-0 run in the first half to take an 18-8 lead.
Jennifer Saunders ignited the rally with a short jumper and a
3-pointer, making the score 13-8. Bianca Booker scored on a layup
and Kristin Bosserman capped the rally with a 3-pointer for a
10-point BC lead.
The Eagles still led by 10 with 1:27 left in the half, but the
Generals cut the margin to four before two free throws by Jenny
Logan gave the Eagles a 38-32 lead at the break.
Two foul shots by Logan with 8:01 left to play gave the Eagles
their biggest lead, 65-47, but the Generals had on final run
left.
W&L cut the lead to seven on a layup by Bethany Ridenhour with
3:45 remaining, but BC hit its foul shots down the stretch to
preserve the victory.
Four Eagles reached double figures with Saunders leading the way
with 16 points. Jordan Burkholder scored 15 while Logan and
Bosserman each finished the game with 13 points. The BC bench had a
productive game as Logan, Bosserman and Booker combined for 34 of
BC's 77 points.
Rebecca Bolton scored 21 to lead the Generals. Megan Ingram scored
15 and Ridenhour added 14.
The Eagles shot 47 percent from the field to help offset 24
turnovers. W&L turned the ball over 26 times.
The Eagles will play Mo. 1 seed Roanoke in Saturday's first
semifinal. The Maroons blasted No. 8 seed Lynchburg, 75-48, in
Thursday's first quarterfinal contest. Roanoke swept the season
series from the Eagles.
