Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Washington and Lee
outscored the Bridgewater Eagles (7-5, 5-4 ODAC) by a 40-26 margin
in the paint and had a pair of players with double-doubles, while
the Eagles were ice cold from the field as the Generals defeated BC
by a 67-58 score in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
Bridgewater started the game 2-of-9 from the floor, while the
Generals used a 17-7 run to open a 10 point lead with 13:01 to play
in the opening frame.
Over the course of the next two and half minutes, a 7-0 Eagles
run chipped the W&L lead down to three, before the Generals put
the game back to a seven point margin.
Washington and Lee (6-7, 5-4 ODAC) would hold the Eagles offense
in check for the remainder of the first half, taking a 32-22 lead
into the locker room.
Bridgewater was 7-of-28 for 25% from the floor in the opening
half while Washington and Lee went 13-of-34 for 38%.
At the onset of the second half, a 9-2 Generals run put the lead
to a game-high 17 points for W&L with 17:34 to play.
Bridgewater slowly chipped away at the Washington and Lee lead,
behind a sensational effort from Bianca Booker off the bench, as
the junior sparked the Eagles offense to bring the game to within
four at a 50-46 score with 7:42 to play.
Washington and Lee then stretched the lead back out to a dozen
with under a minute to play before defeating the Eagles 67-58 at
Nininger Hall.
Bridgewater was led by sophomore Jenny Logan's 15 point
output. Junior Jordan Burkholder also chipped in 13 for the Eagles.
On the boards, freshman Katelynn Hottinger led the Eagles with
six boards.
Washington and Lee was led by a monster double-double from Becca
Bolton. Bolton knocked in 20 points to go along with 18 rebounds.
Forward Felice Herman also chipped in 19 points and 12 boards for
W&L.
The Generals outrebounded BC by a 50-to-32 margin.
Bridgewater forced 29 W&L turnovers which turned into 34 BC
points, but the squad couldn't overcome a 30% performance
from the field, while the Generals shot at a blistering 44% pace.
BC is back in action on Tuesday when Roanoke comes to Nininger
Hall. The Maroons defeated Bridgewater in Salem earlier in the
season. Tip-off from Bridgewater is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
