BRIDGEWATER, Va. – With 17:59 to play in the game, junior Jordan Burkholder knocked down a three pointer on an assist from junior Lacey Barnett to notch her 1,000th career point, aiding in the process of a convincing 79-45 victory over Emory & Henry in Nininger Hall.

Bridgewater swarmed the visiting Wasps in the first half and used a stingy defense, efficient offense and exceptional rebounding to jump out to a 28-point halftime lead.

BC used a 20-2 run over the game's first eight minutes to blow the game wide open before the Wasps found any semblance of an offense. During the eight minute stretch, the Eagles held Emory & Henry to a meager 9% (1-11) from the floor.

Burkholder led all scorers in the first half with 14 points, single-handedly outscoring the Emory & Henry offense.

Coming out of the locker room, Bridgewater got on the board first with a Katelynn Hottinger layup to extend the lead to 30 and a 41-11 margin before Emory & Henry answered with a bucket of its own with 18:23 to play draw the game back to a 28-point spread.

During BC's ensuing possession, Barnett crossed the midcourt stripe and delivered a swing pass to Burkholder on the opposite wing where the Turner Ashby graduate found nothing but cotton to net her 1,000th career point. Following the bucket, longtime Bridgewater mentor Jean Willi used a full timeout as the crowd congratulated Burkholder on her accomplishment.

Following the timeout, the two teams would trade baskets until 11:27 to play when a Jessica Mullen layup sparked an 8-0 run for the Eagles and effectively put the game away at a 63-26 tally with 9:22 to play.

Emory & Henry would chip away at the Bridgewater lead over the game's final nine minutes and change, but eventually it was the Eagles prevailing by a 79-45 score over the visiting Wasps.

Burkholder led all scorers with a game-high 21 points. Junior Bianca Booker chipped in an additional 12 bench points to aid the Eagles offensively.

BC dominated Emory & Henry on the glass by a 51-35 margin, with Hottinger pulling in a team-high eight rebounds for the Eagles.

Emory & Henry was led by Blakeley Brewton's team-high eight points, while Alex Lyons led the Wasps on the glass with nine boards, including eight on the defensive end.

Bridgewater is back in action on Tuesday, January 12 when the Eagles welcome Lynchburg to Nininger Hall. Tip-off against the Hornets is slated for 7:00 p.m.
