Box Score The Bridgewater volleyball team won its 2010 home opener by
defeating Mary Baldwin College in three games - 25-13, 25-12,
25-21.
In the first game, after seeing the score tied at 3-3 the Eagles
took a 13-5 lead and never looked back. Freshman Katie Long
(Floyd, VA/Floyd Co.) had two kills, while Ashley Scott
(South Riding, VA/Heritage) and Katie Baker
(Strasburg, VA/Strasburg) each had one kill. Freshman setter
Lindsay
Kallam (Virginia Beach, VA/Princess Anne) had four assists. A
service ace by senior Candice Guy
(Fishersville, VA/Wilson Memorial) helped the Eagles extend their
lead to 16-7. Guy finished the first game with two kills to
give BC a 25-13 win.
The second game went back and forth until Carly Whiting
(New Castle, VA/Craig Co.) had a kill off an assist by Ashleigh Foor
(Amherst, VA/Amherst Co.) to give the Eagles an 8-4 advantage. A
service ace by Cadie Castle
(Mineral, VA/Louisa Co.) pushed the lead to 10-5. MBC cut the
lead to nine at 19-10 but could gt no closer as BC prevailed
25-12.
It was a battle of wills in the third set as Mary Baldwin took
an early 4-7 advantage. The Eagles tied the score at 9-9 and
went ahead 10-9 off a service ace by Casey O'Leary
(Quinton, VA/New Kent). After gaining the advantage, BC held
on for a 25-21 win.
BC was lea in kills by Scott with nine, while Kallam dished
out 15 assists. O'Leary had 11 digs on the evening.
The Eagles are back in action this weekend when they travel to
play in the Dickinson College Invitational.
