Box Score EMORY, Va. - Emory & Henry used a hot-shooting first half to open a big lead and the Wasps went on to defeat the Bridgewater College Eagles, 81-63, Saturday afternoon in ODAC basketball action.
In the opening half, the Wasps torched the Eagles from beyond the arc and led by as many as 20 points.
The Wasps led 10-9 early before outscoring Bridgewater 36-21 during the remainder of the first half to lead 46-30 at the break. Emory & Henry hit 7-for-11 from bonus range (63.6 percent) to build the large first half lead. Overall, the Wasps shot 54.8 percent in the first half, making 17-of 31 shots. Terrence Griggs scored 14 points to lead E&H in the opening half while Michael Owens hit all four of his shots, including two from beyond the arc to score 10.
The Eagles opened the second half with an early run to cut the lead to 11, but the Wasps weathered the BC rally and went on to pick up their first conference victory of the season.
Rick Maloney led the Eagles with 14 points and Cody Griffith added 13. Griggs led all scorers with 25 points.
Bridgewater is now 2-8 in the ODAC and 6-13 overall while the Wasps improve to 4-15, 1-10 in the conference.
