Football Posts Dominating 27-14 Victory at Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. – Senior running back Anthony Carter rushed for 135 yards and three scores as the Bridgewater Eagles came from behind to defeat host Emory & Henry by a 27-14 score on Senior Day at Fred Selfe Stadium.

Defensively, the Eagles were up to the task holding Emory & Henry to under 100 yards on the ground and a mere 13 first downs.

Bridgewater got on the board first off of a six yard Carter touchdown run with 9:34 left in the first quarter to put the Eagles ahead by a 6-0 tally.

Emory & Henry responded with a touchdown to start the second quarter and took the lead off of the PAT to put the Wasps ahead by a 7-6 score.

Following the score, Emory & Henry padded its lead eight and a half minutes later when Joseph Vaughn bolted into the endzone from two yards out to cap a seven play-56 yard drive to put the Wasps ahead by a 14-6 margin with 6:25 to play in the first half.

Bridgewater cut into the Emory & Henry lead as the game headed to the intermission when a Will Davis 20-yard field goal capped an outstanding 16 play-70 yard drive to bring the game to a 14-9 halftime margin.

Out of the intermission, Bridgewater took the lead for good when Carter scampered in from one yard out to put the finishing touches on another 10-play drive to put the Eagles up by a 15-14 score with 12 minutes left.

With under five minutes to play in the third quarter, Carter scored for the third time on the day on a three-yard run to cap off a 15-play, 89 yard drive to put the Eagles up by a 21-14 score with 4:36 to play in the third.

Bridgewater put the nail in the coffin midway through the final stanza when quarterback Carlos Gonzalez connected with Cliff Woodard on a 15 yard pattern to put the Eagles ahead by a 27-14 score, which is how things would end.

Carter paced the way for the Eagles on the ground, as Bridgewater outgained Emory & Henry by a 235-to-87 margin on the ground.

Through the air, Gonzalez was efficient again, going 15-of-25 for 172 yards and a touchdown.

On the receiving end, Julius Delbridge paced the way with five catches for 63 yards.

Defensively, linebacker Chris Wholey led the way with seven tackles on the afternoon.

Emory & Henry was led on the ground by Adam Pugh's 6 yards on eight carries.

Through the air, quarterback Kyle Boden was held in check, going 18-of-38 for 209 yards, a touchdown and an interception on the day.

On the receiving end, Adrian Jordan paced the way for the Wasps with four catches for 74 yards and a score.

Defensively, Devan Sproles and Travis Bolt led the way with 14 tackles a piece.

Bridgewater controlled the clock on the day, owning the time of possession battle by a 39:36-to-20:24 margin. The Eagles were 7-of-17 on third down, while holding Emory & Henry to just 3-of-15 on third down.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday when they host Randolph-Macon. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Jopson Field.
