Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. - On a rainy evening in Lexington, three different players scored for the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team as the program earned just its second win against Washington and Lee in series history by a 3-1 tally in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference affair.
The last win over the Generals came nearly eight years ago by a 2-1 score on October 10, 2003 at Washington and Lee.
Bridgewater wasted little time in getting on the board as sophomore Betsy Joslyn stuck a shot past the Generals keeper at the 8:27 mark to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage.
The Eagles kept the offensive barrage rolling when junior Jennifer Bateman snapped a shot at the keeper and snuck it inside the far post to give Bridgewater a 2-0 lead off of a corner insert in the 12th minute.
Washington and Lee looked to knot things up in the 19th minute when a shot slid past Bridgewater keeper Taylor Waddell, but the shot came from outside the circle, keeping the score at a 2-0 Eagles advantage.
In the 26th minute, Washington and Lee got on the scoreboard when Candice Stefanic found the back of the cage to split the Eagles' margin in half at a 2-1 tally which is where the game would remain as the two teams headed to the locker room.
Bridgewater owned an 8-to-5 edge in shots in the first half and a 6-to-4 advantage in penalty corners.
At the start of the second half, the Eagles again spent little time in getting on the scoreboard when sophomore Rebecca Lindgren found the back of the cage to push the Bridgewater lead back to two goals at a 3-1 margin at the 40:36 mark.
Following the Lindgren tally, both teams would have opportunities over the remainder of the game but neither team would find the back of the cage as Bridgewater would pick up its first ODAC win of the year by a 3-1 score.
Senior Kelly Ryan led the Bridgewater offense with four shots on the evening, as Bridgewater outshot Washington and Lee by a 16-to-10 margin. Bridgewater owned a 10-to-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Waddell earned the victory for the Eagles between the pipes, turning away five shots along the way.
Bridgewater is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts crosstown rival Eastern Mennonite. Action is slated for a 4:30 p.m. start.
