Women's Tennis Splits with Moravian and Wilkes

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – In action at PTR Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head, S.C., the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team played the rare daily doubleheader and came away with a split, falling to Wilkes 7-2 before defeating Moravian 6-3.

Bridgewater opened doubles play against Wilkes with a convincing victory in top flight doubles as the duo of Katy Bergey and Katie Gordon earned an 8-3 win.

At number two, the tandem of Ally McConaughy and Emily Schweitzer dropped an 8-2 decision before the Eagles fell behind by a 2-1 margin after doubles play as the duo of Brittany Wilson and Olivia Stone posted an 8-5 loss at number three.

Turning to singles action, Gordon fell at number one by a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 tally in a tight three-set affair.

Bergey handed the Eagles their lone singles win as the sophomore notched a 6-3, 7-5 victory at number two.

Wilson fell in defeat by a 6-3, 6-4 tally at number three, before Schweitzer dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision at number four.

Stone fell at number five by the same 6-3, 6-1 margin before McConaughy dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to round out the match.

Bridgewater rallied in the afternoon behind a pair of doubles wins to open an early lead. Bergey and Gordon got things started with an 8-3 victory at number one before Stone and Wilson dropped a tight 8-5 matchup at number two.

The duo of McConaughy and Schweitzer got the Eagles back on track in a hurry though as the tandem scored an 8-4 victory to give Bridgewater the advantage after doubles play.

In singles action, Moravian knotted things up as Bergey dropped a tight 6-4, 6-3 affair at number one.

Gordon responded with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win at number two to put the Eagles back ahead before Wilson dropped a close 7-5, 7-5 matchup at number three to even things back up at three matches each.

Schweitzer gave the Eagles the edge with a 6-2, 6-3 win at number four before Stone sealed the win with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at number five.

McConaughy rounded out the match with an easy 6-0, 6-1 win at number six.

Bridgewater is back in action on Thursday when it tangles with Wittenberg. Action is set for a 9 a.m. start.
