Box Score SALEM, Va. - Junior Colleen Dickson netted two goals including the game-winner at the 41:40 mark as the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team earned a 3-2 victory over Sewanee on Sunday at Roanoke College.
Dickson wasted little time in putting the Eagles on the board as the junior found the back of the cage off of a corner insert just 76 ticks into the contest to put Bridgewater ahead by a 1-0 score.
Bridgewater continued its offensive barrage early in the game and pressured the Tigers defense but couldn't add an insurance goal in the opening frame and settled for a 1-0 halftime lead.
The Eagles outshot Sewanee by a 9-to-3 tally in the first half, but Tigers netminder Anna Morrow thwarted Bridgewater on the offensive end to keep the game at a one-goal affair.
Out of the halftime break, the Eagles wouldn't take their foot off the pedal as they continued to pepper the Sewanee goal before freshman Taylor Prillaman found the back of the cage to give Bridgewater some insurance and a 2-0 lead at the 39:25 mark.
Two minutes later, Dickson stuck her second goal of the game in the back of the cage to put the Eagles ahead by three with under 25 minutes remaining.
Following a green card on Caroline Augsburger, the Tigers finally got on the board when Anne Booke got a shot past Eagles keeper Jessica Balsano to cut the Eagles lead to 3-1 with 22:28 to play.
Sewanee remained on the offensive over the next 22-plus minutes and Booke netted her second goal of the game as time expired off of a corner insert but it wasn't enough as the Eagles earned their second straight win with a 3-2 victory over the Tigers.
Bridgewater controlled play on the offensive end and owned a 19-to-10 advantage in shots and a 10-to-7 edge in corners.
Dickson paced the offense with five shots and a pair of goals while Augsburger added four shots and Prillaman chipped in three shots and a goal.
Balsano made six saves to earn her third win of the year, while Morrow made 11 saves in the loss.
Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday when it opens the conference slate at home against Virginia Wesleyan. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
