Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - Freshman Taylor Prillaman put the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team on the board early, but the Eagles couldn't hold off an offensive barrage from 19th-ranked Lynchburg College in a 9-1 loss on Friday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
The loss snapped Bridgewater's (5-4, 2-1 ODAC) four-game winning streak.
Less than five minutes into the game, Prillaman took a pass from junior Colleen Dickson and beat the keeper to put the Eagles up 1-0. Prillaman's goal extends her scoring streak to five consecutive games which is the longest streak of its type in more than a dozen years for the field hockey program.
Following Prillaman's tally, the Hornets tied the game up at the 10:04 mark before putting five more goals on the board in the first half to own a 6-1 halftime lead.
Lynchburg (8-2, 4-0 ODAC) added three more goals in the second half and held the Eagles off of the scoreboard to hand Bridgewater a 9-1 loss.
The Hornets outshot Bridgewater by a 49-to-4 margin on the evening, with Prillaman's three shots pacing the Eagles' offense. Dickson also added a shot for the Eagles in the loss.
A trio of Hornets led the way for Lynchburg with two-goal games.
Junior Jessica Balsano recorded 23 saves in the loss, while Lynchburg netminder Hannah Myers picked up the victory for the Hornets allowing one goal on the lone shot she faced. Myers split time in the cage with Jordan Seeley.
Bridgewater is back in action on Wednesday at Mapp Field against Roanoke. Start time against the Maroons is set for 4:30 p.m.
