HARRISOBNURG, Va. – The Bridgewater volleyball team traveled across town to Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday for the EMU Royals tri-match. The Eagles picked up another Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) 3-1 win against the Royals of Eastern Mennonite. North Carolina Wesleyan defeated Bridgewater 3-2 in the second match of the day.

Bridgewater advances to a record of 7-9 overall and 5-1 ODAC. EMU drops to a record of 3-12 and 0-6 in the ODAC.

Megann Grimes led the Eagles with points scored with 11.5 against Eastern Mennonite. Grimes recorded nine kills and five blocks. Katie Long also put up eight kills and three blocks for Bridgewater.

Junior Lindsay Kallam tallied 21 assists and eight digs. Casey O'Leary led the back row with 22 digs and Nikki Snyder added 17.

For Eastern Mennonite, Katie Miller chipped in 19 digs, while Mattie Lehman added 15. Lehman also notched 26 assists for the Royals.

The first set of the day, EMU broke out strong with a seven point lead over the Eagles. An attack error by Long put the score at 24-16 with the Royals in the lead. Bridgewater went on a nine point run tying the score 25-25. Two errors by EMU let the Eagles take the 27-25 victory.

Bridgewater came out with two big kills from Cat Snead that put the Eagles in the lead with a score of 8-3. The Eagles went on a seven point run with freshman Snyder serving and swept the second set 25-13.

EMU performed four strong kills in a row during the third set that took them from three points behind to three points ahead of the Eagles. Eastern Mennonite seemed to be on fire with kills and finished off the 25-20 set with two kills from Michelle Miller.

The Eagles were shaken up going into the fourth and final set with three attack errors off the bat. But Grimes and Kallam came back with two back-to-back kills pushing the Eagles to the front. The two teams rallied until the very end where Bridgewater took the 25-18 victory with two kills from Maddy Carter.

Long dominated the leaderboard with 13 kills and Snead not far behind with 10 kills for the Eagles during the second contest of the day against North Carolina Wesleyan.

Kallam recorded 37 assists, while O'Leary chipped in 32 digs for Bridgewater.

Three NC Wesleyan players recorded double-doubles for the match which aided them in the victory.

32-28 was the final score of the first set between the Eagles and Battling Bishops. The set rallied back-and-forth after eight ties NCWC pulled away with three kills to take the game.

The second set was evenly matched until three kills from the Eagles making the score 16-10. After an important timeout call by Bridgewater, NCWC was thrown off their game and two errors later the Eagles swept the match 24-17.

The third set was a competitive rally the whole way through until a kill from Grimes that ended the game 25-23 and another win for the Eagles.

The Battling Bishops broke out strong for the fourth set with a six point lead on Bridgewater. The Eagles were able to keep the set competitive to make the score 18-16. NCWC takes the win 26-24, which meant that everything rode on the fifth and final set.

Cadie Castle and Carter pounded two kills onto the Bishops court making the score 4-1 early. After an attack error by NCWC a timeout was called that seemed to fuel the Bishops and four kills later with six errors from the Eagles the score stood at 11-6. NCWC took the next five points and the set for the victory over Bridgewater.

The Bridgewater volleyball team returns to Nininger Hall tomorrow for the annual Dig Pink game. The Eagles will take on Averett at 1 p.m.
