Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College Eagles were unable to overcome a cold-shooting effort Friday night and fell to the Lynchburg College Hornets, 66-50 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball contest.
The Eagles actually got off to a quick start and took a 5-0 lead on a jumper by Cassidy Burkholder and a 3-pointer by Jessi Strom.
Lynchburg tied the score at 7-7 on a 3-point play by Chaney Forbush and the teams traded points until Sarah Toliver scored five straight points to give the Hornets a 16-11 lead.
The Eagles rallied and a 3-pointer by Molly Shelley tied the score at 20-20 with 7:57 left in the half.
Bridgewater managed just four more points the remainder of the half as Lynchburg outscored the Eagles 13-4 during the remainder of the half to take a 33-24 lead at the break.
Lynchburg opened the second half with a 6-0 spurt to push its lead to 14 points and the Eagles were unable to recover.
Bridgewater trimmed the margin to single digits with 15:29 left to play on a layup by Rebecca Reifsnider, but the Hornets scored the next six points and led by at least 12 points the rest of the game.
Shelley led the Eagles with 14 points and Burkholder scored 12.
The Eagles made just 30.2 percent of their shots (19-of-63), including just 3-of-16 from 3-point range.Bridgewater also struggled on the boards as Lynchburg held a 54-37 rebounding edge.
Shannon Allan scored 14 points to lead a balanced Hornets scoring attack. Forbush added a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Bridgewater, now 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the ODAC, breaks for exams and will not play again until Dec. 20 when the Eagles play the first of two games in St. Petersburg, Fla.
