Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Katie Long led the way with a dozen kills in the opener before putting down 20 kills in the nightcap to help lead the Bridgewater Eagles volleyball team to a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon at the Gettysburg College Battlefield Classic.

Bridgewater (4-0) was victorious in the opener with a 3-0 win over Washington (Md.) before rounding out the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Penn State-Harrisburg.

In the opener, Washington College jumped out in front of the Eagles early before Bridgewater stormed back to take the set by a 26-24 margin. The Shoremen jumped out to a 7-3 advantage early in the set before Bridgewater rolled up three straight points on a kill from Abby Mills and back-to-back Allison Moore kills to knot the set up at eight points each.

Both teams battled back and forth in the set with the score being knotted up at 17 each before a three-point run from the Eagles gave Bridgewater a 20-17 cushion. Bridgewater pushed the set to game point, 24-18, off of a pair of kills from Mills before the Shoremen pushed the set to extra points.

Washington College ripped off five straight points to force a Bridgewater timeout before an attack error tied the game up at 24 points apiece.

A Shoremen attack error gave Bridgewater a 25-24 advantage before Rachel Donaldson closed out the set with a kill to hand the Eagles a hard fought 26-24 win in the opening set.

Bridgewater cruised to victory in the second set with a 25-15 victory. The Eagles hit at a .231 clip in the second set of the day to take a 2-0 advantage.

In the third set, Washington College again jumped out in front of the Eagles, but Bridgewater quickly stormed back to take the lead at a 6-4 tally. Both teams traded the lead until the Eagles went on a 9-2 run in the middle of the set to effectively put the match away. Mills tallied an ace to put the Eagles in front by a 19-13 tally, before the Shoremen mounted a feverish rally. Washington went on a 7-1 run to tie the set up at 20 points each.

Bridgewater closed out the set by scoring five of the last six points to take the set and the match behind a 25-21 win.

Long's 12 kills led the way for the Eagles offense, while Mills chipped in 10 kills to help lead the way. Mills added 10 digs to post her third-straight double-double, earning the mark with a kill on the final point of the match.

Senior Mara Hogan led the Bridgewater defense with 15 digs, while fellow senior Lindsay Kallam ran the offense with 33 assists. Donaldson added four blocks to help pace the Bridgewater defensive effort.

Washington College was led by the efforts of Kristin Lee. Lee tallied 14 kills in the loss.

In the weekend finale, three players in double figures in kills led the way to a 3-1 win.

Early in the first set, the two teams traded points with the set being knotted up at 11 points each. The Lions rattled off four straight points to take a 15-11 led before the Eagles scored four unanswered points to tie the set up at 15 each, forcing a Penn State-Harrisburg timeout.

Out of the timeout, the Eagles ripped off three straight points off of a pair of kills by Long and a kill by Moore to build an 18-15 advantage.

An Olivia Umoren kill cut off the Bridgewater run, but the Eagles proceeded to score the final seven points of the set to hand the Eagles a 25-16 victory.

Penn State-Harrisburg kept things close with the Eagles throughout set number two, before pulling away late to steal the set by a 25-23 margin.

The Lions ran out to a 6-1 lead in the third set before Bridgewater responded with a run to knot the set up at eight points each. Both teams traded points out of a Penn State-Harrisburg timeout with the score staying tied at 9-9 before the Eagles posted a six-point run to build a 15-9 advantage. Mills tallied a pair of kills during the run, while Hogan added a pair of service aces to help spark the Eagles offense.

Penn State-Harrisburg pulled to within four points multiple times in the latter part of the set, but it was eventually Bridgewater pulling away to a 25-16 victory to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

In the fourth set, both teams traded leads before a late run from the Eagles put the match in the books. The Lions led the set late by an 18-17 tally, but it was Bridgewater capitalizing on a number of Penn State-Harrisburg miscues and three kills from Long to take the set by a 25-21 margin.

Long tallied a game-high 20 kills to lead the Bridgewater offense. The Floyd, Va. native hit at a blistering .381 clip in the match. Mills just missed her fourth straight double-double with 15 kills and nine digs, while Megann Grimes added 14 kills in the win.

Freshman Shannon Skellchock tallied 31 assists to help lead the way for the Eagles, while Kallam added 22 helpers in the finale.

Defensively, Hogan led the way with a dozen digs while freshman Chelsea Owensby added 11.

For their efforts on the weekend, Long and Mills were tabbed to the All-Tournament team.

Chidere Igwe tallied 11 kills to lead the way for the Lions in the loss, while Erin Goodyear led the Penn State-Harrisburg defense with 14 digs.
