Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Facing a second nationally-ranked opponent in nine days, the Bridgewater College field hockey team fell 6-0 at #15 Mary Washington on Wednesday evening.
Freshman Hannah Rioux finished with 10 saves, and has now made double-digit stops in both of her two collegiate starts following a 14-save, 3-goals allowed performance vs. Dickinson on Saturday.
Senior Jenna Steele had a hand in five of the six UMW goals, scoring four times and assisting on Christine Loehr's tally early in the second half.
Steele had a hat trick before halftime, scoring twice unassisted in a span of 3:37 to get the hosts on the board.
Steele then took a pass from Haley Kane in the 25th minute of action and slipped her shot past Rioux for a 3-0 scoreline.
The contest was played on UMW's campus rec fields as part of the program's "Win 4 Wesley" night, and was tied into a post-game concert on campus. However, the game was marred by a long lightning delay just before halftime.
When action finally resumed, Mary Washington returned to the scoring column on Loehr's goal with 32 minutes remaining.
Loehr assisted Alaina Shivers for a 5-0 lead, and Steele capped the scoring with her fourth of the evening.
Bridgewater totaled two shots on goal, coming from Taylor Prillaman and Katie Ellis.
BC earned a pair of penalty corners with no time left on the clock, taken by Elizabeth Washington, but the visitors were unable to grab a consolation goal at the conclusion of the contest.
Bridgewater (0-4) will look to get on track Saturday at home vs. McDaniel. #15 UMW, who has racked up 23 goals in four games, improves to 4-0 on the year.
