Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team fell to William Peace, 3-2 (25-20, 25-14, 22-25, 2-25, 7-15), but earned its 20th win after sweeping Bob Jones, 3-0 (21-25, 16-25, 18-25), in a tri-match on Saturday.
Bridgewater concludes the regular season 20-9 overall and 7-4 in the ODAC. The 2016 season marks the first time BC combined for 20 wins and single-digit loses since 2008.
It is also head coach Erin Albert's (6th season) second 20-win season at the helm of the program.
Match One: William Peace 3, Bridgewater 2
The Eagles had four players reach double-digit kills in a five-set lost against host team WPU (23-7).
Carleigh Studtmann paced the team with 14 kills and Allison Clark had 12 more. Abby Mills recorded a double-double on 11 kills and 17 digs, while Rachel Gaston chipped in 11 more kills.
Macon Frey tallied a career-high 45 digs, and Jenna Hamra also notched a double-double with 38 assists and 13 digs to go along with four service aces. Rachael Girard contributed to the Eagles' offense with 10 assists in three sets, and Victoria Wilson dug up 15 attacks.
The Eagles got off to a quick start by winning the first two sets, 25-20 and then 25-14. However, WPU rallied to beat BC 25-22 in the third set and 25-20 in the fourth.
The Pacers carried its momentum into the final period by jumping out to an 8-1 advantage.
Liana Solomon and Tempestt Frazier registered a block for match-point and a kill from Mya Parks finished the comeback.
Match Two: Bridgewater 3, Bob Jones 0
Mills and Studtmann both posted 10 kills to lead the Eagles to their 20th victory of the year. Mills also added 13 digs for her 13th double-double of the season.
Frey led all players with 22 digs, and Hamra registered her ninth double-double performance behind a match-high 34 assists and 12 digs. Hamra landed three service aces and snuck in three kills as well.
Gaston smashed seven kills and Allison Clark finished the contest 6-for-19 at the net with just one error and a .263 attack percentage.
Bob Jones closed the deficit to 21-20 late in the first set, but the Eagles responded with four straight kills to claim game one.
Clark hammered a spike for a comfortable 23-13 advantage in the second set. Hamra set Studmann for game-point and then found Mills for the 2-0 match lead.
In the third set, the Eagles grabbed a 16-9 lead on a kill by Hamra. Clark and Studtmann exchanged kills to give BC match-point, and a Bob Jones service error completed the triumph.
The Eagles have broken a two-year playoff drought and will host an ODAC tournament quarterfinals match against Guilford on Wednesday in Nininger Hall.
