Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College volleyball team won its third consecutive match with a 3-0 (16-25, 8-25, 19-25) sweep against Ferrum College on Wednesday evening.
Bridgewater (11-3) notched a .396 hitting percentage as a team with only eight attack errors compared to Ferrum's (4-9) .033 hitting percentage on 21 attack errors.
Senior Abby Mills posted a match-high 10 kills on an outstanding .455 hitting percentage and had nine digs. Sophomore Jenna Hamra led all players with 34 assists.
Junior Carleigh Studtmann collected nine kills, while Allison Clark and Deja Booker had seven each. Booker also contributed four block assists and Madison Haynes added three more.
Taylor McNeely and Carson Mead led the Eagles' defensive effort with nine digs apiece.
The Eagles got off to a quick start in the opening set with a 15-10 advantage. BC built its lead to 20-14 after three straight kills from Mills and a Hamra service ace. Ferrum called a timeout following the 4-0 run, but three consecutive attack errors by the Panthers closed the set.
Bridgewater produced its best game in the second set by accumulating 14 kills on a .667 hitting percentage and limiting Ferrum to eight points on five kills. The Eagles rode the serve of Haynes to a 14-3 margin and never let up to go ahead 2-0 in the match.
In the third set, the Eagles tallied a game-high 17 kills to complete the sweep. The period was a back-and-fourth affair as a spike by Clark tied the score, 8-all. Another kill from Clark gave BC an 19-18 edge, and the team pulled away with a 6-1 run.
The triumph improved Bridgewater's home record to 3-1.
The Eagles continue their three-match homestead with a tri-match on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The team will welcome conference foe Emory and Henry and Southern Virginia to Nininger Hall for a full day of action.
