Eagles Lose at Rhodes Despite Five-Goal Performance by Mann

Box Score

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Despite five goals from Blake Mann, the Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team opened its spring break trip with an 8-6 loss at Rhodes College on Sunday night.

Mann had a hand in every Eagle score as he also assisted Sean MacLeish for BC's final goal of the day. Kevin Metzger made 11 saves in the cage while Jake Truman added five ground balls.

The hosts opened the game up with a 3-0 second quarter after the teams had been tied 2-2 after one period.

John Tooher scored on the opening possession of the quarter, with Tyler Milwit and Addison Mueller adding unassisted tallies exactly one minute apart to make it 5-2 Rhodes at halftime.

Ryan McHugh assisted Mann on both of BC's first quarter strikes, including the game's opening goal with 13:21 on the clock.

Rhodes had a chance to add to their lead following a 30-second BC penalty early in the third quarter, but Kevin Metzger denied Mueller and then recovered the ground ball.

Mann cut the deficit to 5-3 with his hat trick goal, but Rhodes answered 32 seconds later.

A two-minute major with six minutes left in the third gave the Eagles another chance to rally and Mann recorded his fourth goal of the game. BC won the ensuing faceoff but James Margraff came up with a crucial caused turnover and ground ball pickup for Rhodes, with BC committing a hold afterwards.

Mann scored his fifth goal with four seconds left in the third quarter to make it 7-5 Rhodes heading into the final period of play.

Nick Strider won 8-of-12 faceoffs as the Eagles were 11-of-18 on draws overall, but were outshot 33-20 and had seven failed clears to just one for Rhodes.

Tooher finished with a hat trick to lead the hosts, with Margraff totaling five ground balls.

Bridgewater is 2-2 on the season and will play another game on their trip, Tuesday afternoon at Millsaps.
