ROANOKE, Va. – Bridgewater overcame an ice-cold shooting performance in the first half to defeat Hollins University, 64-33, Saturday afternoon in ODAC action.

The Eagles made just 6-of-33 field goal attempts (18.1 percent) in the first half and were tied with Hollins, 18-18, at the half.

The shooting was totally different in the third quarter as the Eagles shot 70.6 percent from the floor and outscored Hollins 28-9 to take control of the game. Bridgewater made 12-of-17 shots in the third quarter while Hollins scored all its points from the foul line, making 9-of-10 free throws.

The Eagles opened the second half with a 9-0 run in the first three minutes. Sydni Carey put Bridgewater ahead with a layup and Madison Baum scored on a mid-range jumper for a 22-18 Eagles lead. Carey added another bucket and Briana Moore knocked down a 3-pointer to put the Eagles up 27-18.

After Kayla Surles hit two foul shots for the home team, Bridgewater reeled off seven more points to push the lead to double figures. Rebecca Harvey started the run with a 3-pointer before Claire Mocarski and Diamond Huskey added buckets to stretch the margin to 34-20 with 5:21 left in the quarter.

Keenan Surles made two foul shots for Hollins, but Moore answered with a 3-pointer, making the score 37-22. Yasmine Tyler made two free throws for Hollins, making it 37-24, but the Eagles reeled off the next seven points to lead by 20. Carey hit two jumpers and Moore converted a three-point play, making the score 44-24 with 53 seconds left in the third quarter.

Keenan Surles made 3-of-4 free throws for Hollins before Erika Nettles scored on a layup, giving Bridgewater a 46-27 lead after three quarters.

The Eagles put the game away with a 7-0 spurt to start the final quarter. Carey scored on a layup and a 3-pointer and Baum added a jumper for a 53-27 lead.

Bridgewater held Hollins without a made field goal for the entire second half as the Eagles continued to pull away for the 64-33 win.

Carey scored a season-high 17 points while Moore matched that total with all 17 of her points coming in the final two quarters.

Kayla Surles led Hollins with 12 points. Hollins made just 7-of-55 shots from the floor (12.7 percent).

Bridgewater, now 9-4 overall and 4-3 in the ODAC, is back in action Tuesday night when the Eagles host Shenandoah for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
