WINCHESTER, Va. – Two long scoreless stretches proved to be too much for Bridgewater to overcome Tuesday night as Shenandoah pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat the Eagles, 79-60, in the opening round of the ODAC women's basketball tournament on the Dave & Kathy Dutton Court at Shenandoah University.

Madison Baum put the Eagles on the board first with a driving layup, but the Hornets reeled off the next nine points. Jordan Sondrol capped the run with a 3-pointer from the top of the key for a 9-2 Shenandoah lead with 7:53 left in the first quarter.

Bridgewater's Rebecca Harvey and Sondrol traded threes before buckets by Harvey and Sydni Carey pulled the Eagles to within 12-9.

The Eagles pulled to within two, 20-18, with 10 seconds left on a 3-pointer by Ahlia Moone, but Shenandoah's Kelsey Jones hit a 3-pointer from well beyond the arc at the buzzer for a 23-18 lead after one quarter.

The Hornets opened the second quarter with six straight points to lead 29-18, prompting an Eagles' timeout with 7:20 remaining in the second quarter.

Following the timeout, the Hornets continued to roll, adding four more points to lead 33-18. Briana Moore scored the Eagles' first points of the second quarter with a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 33-21 with 4:50 left in the half.

Two free throws by Harvey and two more by Baum trimmed the margin t0 37-28 at the half. 

The Eagles struggled to find offense in the first half, making just 8-of-32 shots for 25 percent. The Hornets shot 45.7 percent, making 16-of-35 shots

The Eagles quickly cut the lead down in the third quarter. After a bucket by Shenandoah's Sondrol, Harvey hit a three to cut the lead to 39-31. Allie Coburn then went to work on the offensive glass with two straight buckets after rebounds, pulling the Eagles to within 39-35.

Sierra St. Cyr then rattled in a 3-pointer from the top of the key and Mckenzie Mathis added a layup to push the Hornets lead back to nine 44-35.

After a free throw by Coburn, St. Cyr scored on a drive to the basket, pushing the lead back to double-digits, 46-36, with 4:30 left in the third quarter.

Olivia Weinel's three-point play put the Hornets up 49-36, but Moore knocked down a 3-pointer, making the score 49-39.

Another bucket by Weinel again put the lead at 13, but once again Moore hit from long range to cut it to 10, 52-42. The lead was 10 points at the end of third quarter, 56-46.

The Eagles went scoreless in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter and the Hornets extended the lead to 19 points, 65-46. Baum hit 1-of-2 free throws with 5:56 left in the game for Bridgewater's first point of the quarter, making the score 65-47.

Moore and Harvey closed out their stellar collegiate careers with double-digit scoring efforts. Moore finished with 17 points and Harvey added 14. Fellow senior Coburn also had a solid effort in her final game with 11 points.

The Eagles finish the season with a 14-12 record.
