Box Score 2 FERRUM, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team split matches with Washington & Lee and Ferrum at their first ODAC tri-match of the season on Saturday at Ferrum.
Game One: Bridgewater 0, Washington & Lee 3 (25-19, 25-18, 27-25)
The Eagles and the Generals traded points throughout the first set, with neither team taking more than a three-point advantage through the 19-16 mark. After two Eagle errors, kills from Lauren Nofsinger and Lisa O'Grady put the Eagles back within two at 20-18. However, a four-point Generals service run gave W&L the momentum to take the set 25-19. Both teams totaled 16 kills in the first frame.
The Generals took an early lead in set two that proved to be too much for the Eagles to catch up to. Kills from Nofsinger and Ann-Marie Johnson brought Bridgewater within two at 19-17 but would ultimately drop the set 25-18.
Bridgewater had set point in the third at 25-24 but could not capitalize to push a fourth set falling 27-25.
Lauren Nofsinger paced the Eagles with 12 kills from the middle followed by 11 from O'Grady. Jessica Bissmeyer recorded 20 digs with Ashley Rutherford recording 14 and Grace Williams with 11. Grace Hayes dished out 30 assists.
Game Two: Bridgewater 3, Ferrum 0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-21)
Bridgewater grabbed the lead at 2-1 and never looked back in set one. Jessica Bissmeyer ended the set with a kill to put the Eagles up 1-0.
The Eagles attack was lights out in the second set, hitting a .390 with 20 total kills to take the 25-13 set.
With the game tied 17-17 in the third, a four-point Madeline Walker service run separated the Eagles from the Panthers to go up 21-17. The separation was all Bridgewater needed, along with kills from Rutherford, Rachael Meyers and Bissmeyer to take the three set sweep.
Ashley Casey led the Eagles with 12 kills and a .611 hitting percentage. Bissmeyer and Nofsinger each recorded nine kills. Williams posted 12 digs and four service aces. Hayes moved one step closer to the 2,000 career assist mark with 36 assists. The junior currently sits at 1,748 career assists.
The Eagles move to 5-6 on the year and 2-1 in the ODAC. The team returns to action on Wednesday when they host Randolph-Macon in the squad's Bleed Crimson match at 7:00 p.m.
