SALEM, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's track & field team finished up the Finn Pincus Invitational, hosted by Roanoke, on Saturday.
Michael Smith placed himself in the program's record books with a first-place finish in the weight throw after tossing 17.21 meters. The mark is the second-best in the program history as he elevated his personal best of 14.92 meters that was previously seventh in team history.
Peter Fulton was right behind him in second place with a throw of 16.98 meters, which raises him to third in the program's top 10 listing for the event. Tony Nessleodt's 15.05 meter mark placed him seventh in a field of over 50 throwers. In addition, Smith took sixth in the shot put after a top heave of 13.98 meters.
Aaron Moon took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.64 meters that served as the best mark for a DIII competitor in the event.
Anthony Matthews was also near the top of the field with a top mark of 6.23 meters. Matthews took fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.84 meters.
Kaegan Avalos dashed across the finish line in 50.95 seconds to take third in the 400-meter race, which was the top time for a Division III athlete at the event.
Michael Sheets also featured in the top half of the event in 16th.
Calvin Hulleman took 10th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.92, while
Ryder Rose finished eighth in the 3,000 meter run in 9:46.18.
Bridgewater is back in action this coming weekend as it heads to Fairfax for the Patriot Games, hosted by George Mason, with the two-day even beginning on Friday, Jan. 27.
