Bridgewater College belted five home runs Friday, including two
each by Blake Stokely and Andy Chrismer, to power past Mary
Washington, 12-8, in non-conference baseball action.
Mary Washington scored one run in the first, but BC grabbed the
lead with two runs in the bottom of the second. Stokely led off
with a single and moved to third on a double by Chrismer. Drew
Elkins walked to load the bases before Tyler Hodges plated Stokely
with a sacrifice fly to center to tie the score. With two outs,
Aaron Read singled and the Eagles took the lead, 2-1.
The lead didn't last long as Mary Washington score two in the top
of the third, but BC regained the lead with three runs in the
bottom of the inning.
Garrett Hughes doubled with one out before Stokely and Chrismer hit
back-to-back jacks, giving BC a 5-3 lead.
Mary Washington cut the lead to one with a run in the top of the
fifth, but BC answered with two in the bottom of the frame.
Stokely led off with a single in the fifth. Chrismer followed with
a hit-and-run single and took second on the throw. Stokely scored
on a single by Tyler Hodges and Chrismer scored on a bunt by Brad
Buracker, giving BC a 7-4 lead. Stokely and Chrismer hit
back-to-back homer again in the sixth to highlight a four-run
inning that gave BC an 11-5 lead.
Stokely finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs while Chrismer was 4-for-4
with three RBIs. Mike Lenox was 3-for-5 with a solo homer for
Bridgewater.
Travis Bullock was the winning pitcher. He pitched 3.1 innings in
relief and allowed four hits and three runs with two of the runs
earned.
Bridgewater improved to 8-11 while Mary Washington dropped to 6-7.
