Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. - Bridgewater's women's
basketball team couldn't overcome a poor shooting performance as
the squad dropped its regular season finale by a 67-53 tally at
Washington and Lee (15-9, 14-6 ODAC).
The loss snapped a seven game BC winning streak.
Bridgewater (17-8, 13-7 ODAC) struck first off an Emiliegh
Lambert layup and held a 4-2 lead early.
Washington and Lee responded with a 14-2 run to build a 16-6
advantage with under 14 minutes left in the first half.
Following the Generals spurt, junior Jordan Burkholder answered
with a layup to start a 9-0 BC run to bring the Washington and Lee
lead to 16-15 tally with 9:51 left in the opening stanza.
With 6:17 to play in the first, a Bianca Booker trey gave the
Eagles the lead back at a 22-20 advantage.
BC built its lead to as high as four points with 3:01 left in
the first half, but it was W&L scoring nine of the final
13 points in the half to take a 31-30 lead into the intermission.
Senior Kristin Bosserman led the Eagles in the first half with
six points.
Washington and Lee came out of the locker room and knocked in
the first two buckets of the second half to take a 35-30 lead,
before the Eagles stormed back to knot the game at 35 off of a trey
from freshman Molly Look with 18:29 to play.
After the Eagles tied the game up, an 11-4 Generals run put
Bridgewater in a 46-39 hole with 14:07 left.
Bridgewater was able to get the game to within two off of a
Booker jumper with 11:47 left to bring the game to a 48-46 tally,
but W&L finished the game on a 19-7 run to pull away late to a
67-53 victory over the Eagles.
Burkholder led the Eagles with 11 points. The junior's 421
points on the year is the 15th highest single season
total in program history. Burkholder needs a mere nine points to
tie her single season high of 430 points from the 2007-08 season.
Freshman Jackie Buckley led the Eagles on the glass with seven
boards.
Washington and Lee had three players in double figures led by
Becca Bolton's 18 point-14 rebound double-double effort.
The Eagles shot 32.1% from the field, while W&L shot at a
41.9% clip.
Bridgewater now awaits the pairings for the 2010 ODAC conference
tournament. Bridgewater will open play on Thursday at the Salem
Civic Center in Salem, Va. against a team that has yet to be
determined.
