Box Score SALEM, Va. - The Bridgewater College Eagles
improved to 2-0 on the season with a 12-7 victory over Ferrum
College in non-conference lacrosse action Thursday at Salem High
School.
The Eagles led by just one goal at the break, but outscored the
Panthers 6-2 in the second half of play to pull away for the
victory.
"We always seem to struggle down here," Bridgewater head coach
Kathy Kerr said. "That was actually a pretty good score considering
it was 20 degrees, snowing and there was 30 mile per wind."
In their two most recent road games with Ferrum, the Eagles were
victorious each time, but scored just nine goals in each game.
Leslie Crawford scored off an assist from Erin Cartwright with
just 29 seconds left in the first half to give the Eagles a 6-5
lead, but Ferrum scored first in the second half on a goal by
Phylicia Garner to knot the score at 6-6.
The Eagles then took control with four unanswered goals to lead
by 10-6. Megan Bach took an assist from Caitlin Costello to give
the Eagles the lead and an unassisted goal by Aili Knapp made the
score 8-6. Sarah Bursey scored off an assist from Knapp before Kate
Moulton capped off the run with a goal off a Bursey assist to make
the score 10-6.
After a goal by Ferrum's Kara Jacobs, the Eagles scored the
final two goals of the game. Leslie Crawford fed Mary Robinson for
a goal and Bach finished off the scoring with an unassisted goal
for the final 12-7 margin.
Knapp and Bach paced the Bridgewater attack with three goals
each while Crawford and Robinson each adde a pair of goals. Bursey
and Moulton each scored once. The Eagles talled seven assists with
Cartwright leading the way with three.
Jen Phan scored three goals to pace the Panthers.
Colleen Schwind played the entire game in goal for BC and
recorded four saves.
