Men's Tennis Defeats Roanoke 7-2 in Season Finale; Floyd Sets Singles Wins Record

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – In the regular season finale at the BC Tennis Courts, the Bridgewater Eagles (12-5, 7-2 ODAC) men's tennis team upped its record to 6-1 on the season with a 7-2 victory over the visiting Roanoke Maroons.  Sophomore Brent Floyd posted his 20th win of the season on the day to snap the single season wins record at BC.

Bridgewater got the day started with two victories in doubles play before taking five of the six singles matches to post its 12th win of the year.

At number one doubles, senior Chris Radke and junior Brad DeWitt fell by a an 8-6 score before the Eagles took the final two matches in doubles play.

The duo of Teddy Callow and Peter Hawkins won a tight 8-5 decision at number two, while Floyd and Donaire won at number three by an identical 8-5 tally.

In his final home singles match of his career, Radke won the first set before dropping the final two in a 2-6, 6-3, 13-11 defeat at number one. Currently, Radke sits at 47 career wins, which bests the former career singles record by eight victories. The Midlothian, Va. native's 79 combined career victories is second in program history to 2008 graduate Brian Remsch's 83 wins.   

Freshman Peter Hawkins ran his wins total to 16 on the year with a win by default at number two. Hawkins won the first set by a 6-3 score before Maroons player Sam Sherrill defaulted in the second set.

Junior Brad DeWitt also notched his 16th win of the fall in a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at number three, while Teddy Callow posted a 2-6, 6-3, 10-5 victory at number four.

Floyd posted his single-season record setting 20th victory by a 6-2, 6-0 tally. The sophomore has won eight of his last 10 matches.

Donaire rounded out singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number six.

Bridgewater is back in action on Friday when the 2010 ODAC Men's Tennis Championships commence at Washington and Lee. With its 7-2 record on the season, Bridgewater earned the No. 3 seed and will play Guilford.
