LEXINGTON, Va. – At the 2010 ODAC Women's
Tennis Championships, the Bridgewater Eagles fell by a 6-3 tally to
the Sweet Briar Vixens in an extremely tight matchup in
quarterfinal play.
In doubles action, the Eagles took just one match as the duo of
Morgan McGhee and Olivia Stone posted
an 8-5 win at number two.
At number one and number three, the Eagles fell in a pair of
tight 8-6 decisions.
Bridgewater dropped the top three singles matches, with the
number one and three matchups being decided by two games or fewer
in each set.
Senior Megan
Mathias closed out her BC career with a tough 6-4, 6-4 loss at
number one. Mathias leaves Bridgewater with the fourth highest
career singles wins total in program history with 35. The
Moorefield, W.Va. native also notched 33 doubles victories to place
her in fifth on the career doubles wins list.
Freshman Olivia Stone fell by a 6-1, 6-0 tally at number two
while senior Alissa Michael
fell in a hard fought match at number three by a 7-5, 6-4 score.
Michael leaves BC in a tie for second on the career singles wins
list with 39. Her 49 career doubles victories are tops in program
history to go along with her program-best 88 combined wins.
Bridgewater got its first singles victory at number four as
McGhee notched a 7-6, 7-6 win in the tightest match of the day.
Sophomore Ally McConaughy
kept things rolling for the Eagles with her 7-5, 6-3 win at number
five before freshman Amanda Gorby fell in
three sets by a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 score at number six.
The 2009-10 season was special for the Eagles as the single
season doubles wins record fell at the hands of McConaughy and
sophomore teammate Emily
Schweitzer.
Gorby came up just one win shy of tying the single season wins
mark with 14 victories during her rookie campaign.
Bridgewater ends the season at 9-10 overall.
