ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Bridgewater College opened its baseball season Saturday by sweeping a doubleheader on the road at North Carolina Wesleyan College.

The Eagles won the opener, 8-5, and then shut out the Bishops, 4-0, in the second game.

BC starter Kevin Chandler was cruising in the opener until a tough defensive inning with three errors led to five unearned runs for the Bishops.

Chandler worked four inning and struck out eight batters. Tyler Milstead pitched four innings of scoreless relief to pick up the victory and John Bayse worked the ninth to get the save.

Andrew Hacker led the offense with a 3-for-5 day at the plate. Hacker belted a homer and finished with three RBIs. Devon Snow added a 2-for-5 day with a two RBIs for the Eagles.

In the second game, sophomore lefty Joseph Lucas dominated the host team. Lucas hurled six innings and did not allow a hit. He left after throwing 92 pitches. Robert Gallet with two innings and Mark Smith with one finished off the three-hit shutout.

Brett Howell had the big hit for the Eagles with a bases-loaded double that plated three runs.

The Eagles go for the series sweep on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Jake Wade is set to make the start for Bridgewater.
