LEXINGTON, Va. - In a Saturday doubleheader on the hard courts, the Bridgewater Eagles men's tennis team dropped a pair of 9-0 defeats to #28 Washington and Lee and Salisbury.
Bridgewater kept things close against the Generals throughout the match, especially in singles action
In singles play, the Eagles won at least one game in each match, except at number six and kept things extremely close at number three and four singles.
At number three singles, senior Teddy Callow fell in a tight 6-4, 6-4 decision, before junior Brent Floyd dropped a tough 6-3, 6-3 matchup at number four.
In doubles play, senior Brad DeWitt teamed up with Floyd at number two to fall by a slim 8-4 margin.
In the nightcap against Salisbury, Bridgewater came close to stealing a pairof matches, but couldnt get over the hump as the Eagles dropped a 9-0 decision to the Seagulls.
At number one singles, sophomore Peter Hawkins fell in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 in a tight match with Andrew Nottage.
Floyd was in a tight battle at number four singles that went to the tiebreaker with Floyd eventually falling by a heartbreaking 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4) tally.
Bridgewater is back in action on Wednesday, March 2 when the team hosts Shenandoah for the 2011 Spring home opener.
