FISHERSVILLE, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team opened its fall campaign with a 5-2 victory over Southern Virginia on Friday evening on the clay courts at the Augusta Health Fitness Center.

Southern Virginia opened the match by sweeping the doubles action to take a 1-0 lead. The Eagles' best fight came in a battle that went the distance at No. 2. BC's duo of Steven Perry and Will Wallis started hot as they took a 4-1 advantage, but a SVU charge flipped the script. The Knights came back and won the match in a tiebreaker, 7-6(3).

Piotr Wisniewski was first off the court after a fiery match at the top spot. The Polish rookie got BC on the board after he was ahead 5-1 when his opponent was forced to retire. SVU picked up a win at No. 3 to take a 2-1 lead in the team score, but Corey Beshoar quickly leveled the score with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 2. Paul Kasse kept the momentum rolling with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 4 spot. Wallis secured the tie for the Eagles in dominant fashion at the No. 6 spot. The rookie steamrolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory to give BC the team win. Brandon Gillispie polished off the victory with a gutsy 7-6(5), 6-1 victory at No. 5. 

The Eagles are back in action on Friday, Oct. 2, in Maryland against Stevenson.
