BRIDGEWATER, Va. - In men's tennis action at the BC Tennis Courts, the Bridgewater Eagles kept a number of matches close but eventually fell to regionally-ranked Hampden-Sydney by a 9-0 score in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference showdown.
Bridgewater fell behind 3-0 after doubles play, with the tightest matchup coming at number one as the duo of Brad DeWitt and Teddy Callow fell by an 8-4 score.
In singles action, sophomore Peter Hawkins and DeWitt were defeated by identical 6-1, 6-3 scores at number one and two.
At number three and four, Bridgewater pushed the Tigers to the limit with Brent Floyd dropping a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 thriller at number three. Callow fell in a close 7-5, 7-5 affair at number four.
Finally, Tim Gower and Matthew Chaulklin fell by mirroring 6-1, 6-2 tallies at number five and six to wrap up the match.
Hampden-Sydney entered the contest as the #11 team in the Atlantic South Region.
Bridgewater is back in action tomorrow when Virginia Wesleyan comes to town. Action is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
