Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Six Ferrum College pitchers combined to limit Bridgewater to just five hits Thursday as the Panthers defeated the Eagles, 5-2, in non-conference baseball action.
The Panthers scored a run in the first and added two more in the fifth to lead 3-0.
Bridgewater got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Jay Thompson led off with a double and scored on a throwing error to trim the lead to 3-1.
Ferrum added some insurance in the eight with RBI-doubles from Paul Jaglowski and Ryan Easterly.
Bridgewater threatened in the ninth when they loaded the bases with one out. Alex Hogge singled through the left side to make it 5-2, but Matt Maher and Bryan Sanderson each flied out to end the Eagles' comeback effort.
Brandon West pitched three innings and allowed just one hit to pick up the win for the Panthers. Caleb Dorton finished 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and one run batted in to pace the Ferrum offense.
Thompson had two of the Eagles' five hits in the game.
Bridgewater is now 19-14 overall while Ferrum stands at 15-15.
The Eagles are back in action Saturday when they host Lynchburg College in a key conference twinbill.
