ASHLAND, Va. – The Bridgewater Eagles men's tennis team swept doubles and reigned supreme in five of the six singles matches to defeat Randolph-Macon by an 8-1 score in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) showdown on Wednesday afternoon.
Bridgewater got things started in a big way when freshmen Brandon Larsen and Evan Stack notched an 8-2 win at number one doubles. Junior Peter Hawkins teamed up with freshman Christian Lynn to earn a hard-fought 8-6 victory at number two doubles before the duo of senior Brent Floyd and freshman Mike Cable notched an 8-4 win at number three doubles to put the Eagles ahead 3-0.
Hawkins pushed his opponent, Mederick Ceril, to the limit in top flight singles action after losing the first set 6-2. In set two, Hawkins stormed back with a 6-1 win before falling by a 10-5 score in the third set tiebreaker to fall in defeat.
Larsen was a straight-set winner at number two, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory, while Floyd turned in a 6-2, 6-3 win at number three to give the Eagles the victory.
Stack continued Bridgewater's singles dominance with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at number four before Lynn notched a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number five.
Sophomore Sam Churchill wrapped up the victory for the Eagles with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number six.
The win was the fourth in the last five matches for the Eagles.
Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday when Case Western Reserve visits the BC Tennis Courts for a matchup with the Eagles. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
