BRIDGEWATER, Va. – In a matchup with nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve, the Bridgewater Eagles men's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to the Spartans in a non-conference tennis match at the BC Tennis Courts.

Case Western Reserve got things started with a sweep of doubles play to put the Eagles behind 3-0. The tandem of Brandon Larsen and Evan Stack dropped a tight 8-6 decision at number one doubles, before the duo of Christian Lynn and Peter Hawkins fell by an 8-1 score at number two.

Senior Brent Floyd and freshman Mike Cable teamed up at number three and fell by an 8-1 margin.

In singles action, the Spartans were victorious at number five and six singles to wrap up the match with the matchups at number one, two, three and four singles going unfinished.

Lynn fell by a 6-3, 6-4 margin in a tight match at number five, before sophomore Sam Churchill fell by a 6-0, 6-1 tally at number six to give the 23th-ranked Spartans the win.

In top flight singles action, Hawkins took a 6-3 lead after the opening set and fell behind by a 4-3 margin in the second set before the match was called.

Larsen split the first two sets at number two, falling in set one by a 6-2 score before climbing back for a 6-1 win in the second set to force the tiebreaker. With the match won for Case Western Reserve the third-set tiebreak ended at a 1-1 tie.

Floyd was down 6-4, 4-0 when the match was called at number three singles, while Stack had split the first two sets, falling in the first set 6-2, before storming back to take set two by a 6-4 tally prior to the match being called early.

Bridgewater is back in action tomorrow, Sunday, when Averett comes to town. Action against the Cougars is set for a 1 p.m. start.
