BRIDGEWATER, Va. – In Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action at the BC Tennis Courts, the Bridgewater Eagles men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to the regionally-ranked Generals of Washington and Lee.
Washington and Lee, the seventh-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, swept doubles play to cruise to an early 3-0 lead.
In top flight doubles action, the duo of Brandon Larsen and Evan Stack stayed close with the top doubles pair from Washington and Lee before eventually falling by an 8-5 tally.
The tandem of Peter Hawkins and Christian Lynn fell by an 8-2 tally at number two while the duo of Brent Floyd and Mike Cable dropped an 8-1 decision at number three to put the Generals up by three matches as action shifted to singles play.
Hawkins was solid in top flight singles action, pushing Hayden White, the fourth-ranked player in the region, to the limit in a 6-4, 6-3 loss.
Larsen dropped a 6-4, 6-1 match at number two before Floyd fell by a 6-1, 6-2 margin at number three.
Stack took the opening set at number four by a 6-4 tally before dropping the second set by a 7-5 margin to force the third-set tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, Stack fell by a 10-4 tally to drop the closest singles match of the day. Stack's first-set victory was the first time the Eagles took a singles set from Washington and Lee since 2009.
Lynn fell by a 6-1, 6-3 gap while Cable rounded out the match with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat at number six.
Bridgewater is back in action on Sunday when Guilford comes to town. First serve against the Quakers is set for 1 p.m.
