BRIDGEWATER, Va. – In a rare Friday afternoon match at the BC Tennis Courts, the Bridgewater Eagles men's tennis team swept the visiting Randolph WildCats by a 9-0 score to post its second straight shutout win of the week.
In doubles action, the duo of Peter Hawkins and Christian Lynn posted an easy 8-2 victory at number one to get the Eagles rolling.
At number two, senior Brent Floyd teamed up with freshman Mike Cable to notch an 8-0 shutout win before the tandem of Sam Churchill and Robert Belton claimed an 8-0 win at number three to push the Eagles ahead by three matches as action shifted to singles play.
Hawkins got things rolling in top flight singles action with a 6-1, 6-3 victory to push the Eagles to within striking distance of the match win.
Freshman Brandon Larsen sealed the team victory by cruising at number two singles by a 6-1, 6-0 margin before Floyd coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 shutout win at number three.
Lynn was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at number four while Churchill, a transfer from Randolph, posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at number five.
Cable rounded out the match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory to push the Eagles to 6-5 on the season with a shutout win over the WildCats.
Bridgewater has a short turnaround as the men's squad travels to Emory & Henry for a Saturday afternoon matinee with the Wasps. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
