HILTON HEAD, S.C. – On day two of the PTR Spring TennisFest, the Bridgewater Eagles men's tennis team rolled to its second win in a row with a convincing 8-1 victory over Wilkes.
Starting up with doubles action, the tandem of Peter Hawkins and Christian Lynn dropped a tight 8-6 match in top flight doubles to fall in the lone match of the day.
The duo of Brandon Larsen and Evan Stack responded in a big way with an 8-0 win at number two, while the Eagles took the lead after doubles play behind an 8-6 win at the hands of senior Brent Floyd and freshman Mike Cable at number three.
Shifting to singles action, Hawkins posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory at number one, before Larsen was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at number two.
Floyd notched a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at his number three post to seal the victory while Stack turned in a 7-6 (6-1), 6-2 win at number four.
Lynn scored a 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 victory at number five, before sophomore Sam Churchill dropped the first set 6-3 and then recovered to win the next two sets by 6-3 and 10-4 scores to roll to the three-set victory in the final match of the day.
Bridgewater is back in action on Thursday when the Eagles tangle with Wittenberg. Action is set for a 9 a.m. start.
