LEXINGTON, Va. - Washington and Lee defeated the Bridgewater College Eagles 5-1 Thursday in ODAC men's tennis action.
The match was moved indoors to the Duchossois Tennis Center due to the cold, windy conditions.
W&L took a 2-1 lead after the completion of doubles action. Bridgewater picked up its point at No. 3 doubles where Peter Hawkins and Sam Churchill defeated Miller Merchant and Brian Krouskos 8-5.
W&L's Taylor Shamshiri and Michael Holt downed Evan Stack and Brandon Larsen, 8-3 at No. 2 doubles and the Generals duo of Christopher Hu and Hayden White took an 8-1 win over Christian Lynn and Mike Cable in the No. 2 doubles match.
Only three of the singles matches were completed as play was stopped after the Generals earned the clinching fifth point.
In a close match at No.1 singles, W&L's White edged Hawkins by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Shamshiri turned back Larsen 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Hu stopped Lynn 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4.
The match at No. 3 singles was closely contested as play was halted with Holt and Bridgewater's Stack splitting sets. Stack won the first set 6-4, but Holt evened the match by taking the second set 6-4.
The Generals held 5-0 leads in the first set in the other two unfinished matches. Krouskos led Cable at No. 5 singles and Vincent Kim was out front against Churchill at No. 6 singles.
