BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater women's tennis team picked up another conference victory Sunday afternoon by defeating Emory & Henry, 9-0.
The Eagles se the tone early by winning all three doubles matches.
Bridgewater's No. 2 doubles team of Olivia Stone and Jessie Mitchell had the toughest match as they edged Meredith Yeary and Sheyenne Cleveland, 9-7.
The Eagles had easier matches at No. 1 and No. 3. Katie Gordon and Marla O'Bryan took an 8-3 win over Alyssa Wingate and Taylor Evans at No. 1 doubles. At No. 3, Rita Murphy and Miranda Donovan rolled to an 8-1 win over Emily Bolt and Casey Blackburn.
Bridgewater swept the singles matches, winning all six in straight sets.
Gordon defeated Wingate 6-1, 6-2 at the top of the ladder and O'Bryan downed Evans 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2.
Mitchell turned back Yeary 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 3 slot while Stone stopped Cleveland 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4.
Donovan defeated Bolt 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 and Murphy won by scores of 6-2, 6-1 over Blackburn at the No. 6 position.
With the victory the Eagles, ranked No. 20 in the ITA South Atlantic Region ranking, improved to 15-3 overall and 8-2 in the ODAC.
