BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College advanced to the semifinals of the ODAC Men's Tennis Tournament with a 5-0 victory Saturday over Randolph-Macon in a first-round match.
The Eagles took an early lead by sweeping the three doubles matches.
At No. 1 doubles, Bridgewater's Evan Stack and Brandon Larsen stopped Connor Hoerr and Michael Baxter 8-5.
Christian Lynn and Mike Cable had a tough match at No. 2 but the Eagles duo prevailed 8-5 over Randolph-Macon's John Adam and Ira Usry.
Peter Hawkins and Sam Churchill completed the sweep with an 8-1 victory over Jody Cox and Tom Lewis at No. 3 doubles.
Hawkins and Larsen gave the Eagles the two singles points needed to finish off the match.
Hawkins rolloed to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Hoerr at No. 1 singles and Larsen defeated Baxter 6-2, 6-2, giving the Eagles the points necessary to claim the victory.
The Eagles will meet Emory & Henry in the semifinals next Saturday at Virginia Wesleyan College. E&H defeated Roanoke, 5-0, in a first-round contest.
