HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Case Western Reserve, ranked No. 8 in the ITA Division III national poll, defeated Bridgewater College, 5-1, on Wednesday in men's tennis action.
The Eagles took their lone point in doubles play where Brandon Larsen and Thomas Rishcoff outlasted Ben McClarren and John Healey, 9-8.
The Spartans took the lead with wins in the other two doubles contests. At No. 1, Christopher Krimbill and Eric Klawitter blanked Mike Cable and Christian Lynn 8-0. Louis Stuerke and James Fojtasek turned back Bridgewater's Sam Churchill and Kyle Hartfield at No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-3.
Only three of the six singles matches were completed as the match was declared final when the Spartans won their fifth point.
At No. 2 singles, Fojtasek blanked Hartfield 6-0, 6-0 and Klawitter stopped Lynn 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3. Wesley Maddox clinched the team win for Case Western Reserve when he defeated Churchill 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 5 singles flight.
The Bridgewater men, now 1-6 on the season, return to action Thursday with a pair of matches. The Eagles play Ohio Wesleyan at 8:30 a.m. and Eastern Nazarene at 2:00 p.m.
