BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team opened conference play Friday afternoon with a 5-1 victory over Randolph College in a match that was played to decision.
The Eagles held a 2-1 advantage at the completion of doubles action.
Randolph's Danil Lyalko and Doug Corbett gave the visitors a 1-0 lead by defeating Christian Lynn and Mike Cable 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.
Bridgewater controlled play in the remaining doubles matches, losing just one game. Brandon Larsen and Thomas Rishcoff took an 8-1 victory over JT von Seggern and Q Manglapus at No. 2. Kyle Hartfield and Sam Churchill blanked Zach Dales and Dan Phung 8-0 at No. 3 doubles for a 2-1 Eagles lead.
The Eagles won the first three singles flights to close out the match.
Larsen blanked Lyalko 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 while Hartfield turned back von Seggern 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Lynn closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Corbett at No. 3 singles.
Bridgewater, now 5-6 overall, returns to action Sunday afternoon when it hosts Guilford College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.
