BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater College held a 2-1 lead after doubles play Thursday over perennial Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) power Washington and Lee, but the Generals won the first four singles matches to take a 5-2 victory in a match played to decision.
The Generals won the No.1 doubles flight when Taylor Shamshiri and Michael Holt turned back Christian Lynn and Mike Cable 8-3..
Bridgewater evened the score when the Eagles No. 2 doubles tandem of Brandon Larsen and Thomas Rishcoff edged Jordan Krasner and Sam Borowsky 8-6. The Eagles left doubles play with the lead when Sam Churchill and Kyle Hartfield took an 8-5 victory over Brian Krouskos and Robert Conley at No. 3 doubles.
W&L responded in singles play with straight set victories in the first four flights.
Shamshiri turned back a strong challenge from Larsen to win at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-3. Holt then defeated Hartfield 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 slot. Krasner won a tough first set at No. 3 singles from Lynn, 7-6, by winning the tiebreaker 11-9. Krasner closed out the match by taking the second set 6-1. Krosukos finished off Rishcoff 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles for the 5-2 Generals victory.
The final two singles matches were not finished. At No. 5 singles, the match was stopped with Churchill holding a 4-3 lead over Conley in the third set. Conley won the first set 6-0, but Churchill evened the score by taking the second set 6-2. At No. 6 singles, Cable was leading W&L's Borowsky 4-3 in the first set when the match was halted.
The Eagles are now 6-7 overall and 2-1 in the conference. W&L improves to 11-2 overall and 9-0 in the ODAC.
