HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - Bridgewater College picked up a key victory Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's tennis action as the Eagles turned back Hampden-Sydney, 6-3.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead by winning two of the three doubles matches.
At the No. 2 slot, Brandon Larsen and Thomas Rishcoff rolled to an 8-0 victory over Thacher Jennings and Zack King. Kyle Hartfield and Sam Churchill defeated Lawrence Bowers and David Dodson, 8-4, at No. 3 for Bridgewater's second point.
The Tigers picked up a point at No. 1 doubles when J.B. Weaver and Fitzhugh Johnson outlasted Christian Lynn and Mike Cable, 9-7.
The Eagles then won four of the six singles matches to close out the victory.
Larsen took a straight set victory at No. 1 singles, defeating Weaver 6-3, 6-1. Hartfield needed three sets at No. 2 singles, but emerged victorious 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 over Johnson.
Bridgewater also picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles. Lynn rolled past King 6-1, 6-0 to win at No. 3. Churchill needed three sets to take down Bowers 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 5 singles flight.
The Tigers won matches at No. 4 and No. 6. Jennings slipped past Rishcoff in a marathon three set match, winning 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. Dodson earned Hampden-Sydney's final point with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Cable.
Bridgewater is now 8-7 overall and 5-1 in the ODAC.
