MOBILE VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater College erased a 4-2 deficit with one run in the sixth inning and five more in the seventh to defeat the Eastern Mennonite Royals, 8-4, Wednesday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball action.

The victory was the 10th straight for the Eagles, now 21-7 overall and 11-3 in the conference.

Bridgewater starter Nick Corbin and EMU starter Aaron Hooven cruised through the first three innings before the Eagles got on the board with the long ball. With two outs and nobody on in the fourth, Bay Liskey hit a solo homer to left for a 1-0 Bridgewater lead. The Eagles made it 2-0 when Darren Yoder led off the fifth with a solo shot.

EMU (15-17, 3-12 in the ODAC) scored all four of its runs in the top of the sixth. Ryan McAllister led off the frame with a double and moved to third when Jonathan Estrada reached on a throwing error. With runners at the corners, Kyle Mathews singled through the left side of the infield, scoring McAllister with EMU's first run. Brandon Carroll popped out on a sacrifice bunt attempt, but Kyle Salladay followed with a double to right-center, scoring Estrada with the tying run. After Ryan Hedrick grounded out, Conner Smith blooped a double down the right-field line, chasing home both Salladay and Mathews to put the Royals on top 4-2.

Bridgewater got one run back in the bottom of the sixth, once again, using the long ball. This time Zach Hynes hit a homer down the left-field line that was just out of the reach of Royals' outfielder Mathews, trimming the EMU lead to 4-3.

The Royals put the first two runners on in the seventh when Adam Posey walked and McAllister bunted for a hit, but Corbin worked out of the jam to keep it a one-run game.

Bridgewater finally solved Hooven's sidearm deliveries in the bottom of the seventh to regain the lead.

With two outs and nobody on base, Derrik Walling singled to left-center to keep the inning alive. Bryan Sanderson walked and Justin Petock followed with a two-run double to the gap in right-center as the Eagles regained the lead, 5-4. Hynes greeted relief pitcher Kyle Armstrong with a run-scoring single up the middle, making the score 6-4. Liskey then belted his second homer of the game, this one to left-center, to cap the five-run outburst.

Dillon Via entered the game in the eighth and shut the Royals down over the final two innings to seal the 8-4 victory.

Nick Fulk continued his hot-hitting with a 3-for-5 day at the plate. Fulk also added three stolen bases to the stat sheet. The Eagles finished with 12 hits as Hynes, Liskey and Brendan Howell added a pair of hits each.

McAllister led the visitors as he collected two of the team's seven hits.

Corbin picked up the win on the mound to improve to 5-1 on the season. In seven innings, he allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out three batters and walking two. Just one of the four runs was earned.

The Eagles return to action Friday afternoon when they host Bluefield State for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. The team concludes a busy week of baseball with a Saturday ODAC doubleheader against Roanoke College. The first game will begin at noon.
